Crusaders pull away late on Saturday

Johnson & Wales closed out the weekend with a trip to University of Dallas to face the Crusaders on Saturday.

The host Crusaders came out firing, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead through the first four and a half minutes of play. Bailey Stephens (Flagstaff, Ariz.) got the 'Cats on the board at 15:55 with a layup. The 'Cats started to make up some ground over the next four minutes and cut the lead down to three points off a pair of Cole Moore (Albuquerque, N.M.) free throws. The back and forth continued with JWU coming as close as a point at 8:09 but each time that the 'Cats would make up some of the difference, Dallas would pull away again. The Crusaders were up 37-25 at the break.

The second half got underway with Johnson & Wales cutting the 12 point deficit down to five points through the first minute and a half. The Wildcats countinued to pressure the Crusaders on the defensive end and hit their shots at the other end of the court. With 13:22 left in the game, Andrew Romero III (Northglenn, Colo.) hit a three pointer that allowed Johnson & Wales to tie the game 45-45. The 'Cats got their first lead of the half on their next trip down the court as Romero hit another three. The back and forth continued for the next couple of minutes before the Crusaders found some late momentum. Dallas continued to hit their shots late while Johnson & Wales started to slow down offensively. By the final buzzer, the Crusaders had held off any late run by JWU to take the 82-65 win.

Romero led JWU with 25 points and King Grant-Perry (Cleveland, Ohio) brought down 12 rebounds to go with his 11 points. Bryson Sharpley (Westminster, Colo.) added 12 points for the 'Cats. Spencer Levi led UD with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

The 'Cats will have the next couple of weeks off before they face Air Force on December 22 in Colorado Springs.
