JWU drops Sunday match

JWU drops Sunday match

The Wildcats welcomed Austin College to a chilly Aurora Sports Park on Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend of matches.

Both sides opened the match just trading possession and getting a feel for each other. Benjamin Reinarz (Longmont, Colo.) had the first shot for JWU in the 25th minute but saw his attempt go wide of frame. The two squads continued to battle through the midfield with both goalies guiding their defenses to control the back line and prevent the open field attempts. Austin's first attempt came late in the first half but was off target, taking the game tied 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, Emad Bashir-Mohammed (Darfur, Sudan) forced AC's Joseph Khalaf to make the save early in the second half as the Wildcats looked to get their offense going. The Wildcats were called for several fouls throughout the half including one in the box in the 71st minute, setting Austin College up for a penalty kick opportunity. AC's Phillip Le stepped up to the spot and beat Brandon Coder (Longmont, Colo.) to put the 'Roos up 1-0. Coder had three big saves in the final ten minutes to keep it a one goal difference.

Johnson & Wales wasn't able to find the equalizer, falling 1-0 in the conference match.

Mohammed had the Wildcats lone shot on goal and Coder had three saves for JWU.

The Wildcats (4-6-1, 2-6-1 SCAC) will travel to Southwestern University next Friday for a 4pm MT match against the Pirates.
