The Wildcats opened a home and home series against the Colorado College Tigers at the El Pomar Center in Colorado Springs. The two sides traded baskets in the opening minutes before the Tigers opened up a 15 point lead in the waning minutes of the first half, taking a 40-27 lead into the break.
A series of miscues on the 'Cats part started the second half with Colorado College taking their lead to a game high 18 points before the Wildcats found their groove. Following a shot from beyond the arc by freshmen Kourtney Shirley, JWU began to chip away at the Tigers. Johnson & Wales cut the Tiger's lead down to 10 but ran out of time dropping the first game 64-74.
Samantha Neal had 18 points for the Wildcats and was joined in double digits by Sarah FitzPatrick and Andrea Austin with 14 and 13 points respectively. Austin also matched the Tiger's Becky Luetjen with a game high 11 boards.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday at 3:00 PM in the Wildcat Center in the close out of the season series.
