JWU women's basketball falls to CC in SCAC opener

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team played the first SCAC conference game in program history Tuesday at Colorado College, falling 91-58 to the host Tigers at Reid Arena.

Katey Guzman scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Wildcats (0-6, 0-1), who bounced back after a rough offensive first half in the third quarter to shoot 47.1 percent and score 26 points in the frame.

Shaylee Andreatta also had her most productive game of her young career with career highs of nine points and eight rebounds. Colorado Springs native Brianna Bailey scored in double digits for the fourth time in six contests this season with 14 points to go with six boards while Avionne Gomez chipped in six points and four rebounds. 

Izzy Strigel led five Tigers (4-3, 1-0) in double figures with 17 points. While JWU couldn't buy a bucket early (2-of-20 in the opening quarter), CC started out 12-of-21 in the first stanza to build a 31-5 lead.

After trailing 49-17 at the break, the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 26-22 in the third quarter. JWU knocked down 5-of-10 shots from behind in the arc in the period and finished the game by matching a season-high with 14 made free throws on 16 attempts.
