Tigers hold off 'Cats for win

Johnson & Wales hosted #2 Colorado College on Tuesday night in the 'Cats final home game of the season. JWU recognized their four outstanding seniors: Alli Butler (Del Norte, Colo.), Erynn Keeney (Thornton, Colo.), Katie Malachinski (Stevensville, Mont.) and Erin Sosnowchik (Omaha, Neb.) before the match.

In the opening set, the visiting Tigers opened the match on a 9-4 run to set the tone early. The Wildcats clawed a few point back but the momentum kept Colorado College on track to take the 25-15 win. In the second set, Colorado College came out firing to open on a 9-2 run. JWU cut into the lead a few times but the Tigers used their early run to power their way to the 25-13 victory.

In the third set the 'Cats regrouped after falling behind 8-2. JWU put together a five point run to come within two points. The two sides traded small bursts with the 'Cats trailing by just a point at 12-11. The Tigers went up 16-11 and forced JWU to call a timeout. Another push by Johnson & Wales brought the deficit to 19-16 and then another became 23-20. The Wildcats did their best but couldn't hold off the late push by CC as the Tigers took a 25-20 win and the 3-0 victory.

Sosnowchik led the Wildcats with nine kills and hit .250 in the contest. Ashlee Ruehs (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 21 assists for the Wildcats and Brooke Paxton (Greeley, Colo.) had a game high 13 digs.

The Wildcats will head to Colorado Springs at the end of the month to take part in Colorado College's Spike It Up Classic on October 27 & 28.
