Wildcats hold on for 3-2 victory

Johnson & Wales closed out the 2017 season on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Ottawa University (Ariz.) at Lowry Sports Park.

The 'Cats got on the board in the 3rd minute as Ben Flannery Bartlett (Lake Minnetonka, Minn.) headed in a ball off a corner kick sent in by Kyler Fowkes (Arvada, Colo.) to give the 'Cats a goal lead. The advantage was short-lived as Ottawa found the equalizer just over a minute later. Ottawa pushed the tempo offensively but found many of their attempts off target through the first period. Michael Genge (Broomfield, Colo.) saved a pair of attempts by Adam Dumo in the 16th and 22nd minutes. Fergus Bunn (Melbourne, Australia) put a shot on target in the 26th minute, but OUAZ's Antony Siaha made the save. Siaha made another stop on the attempt by Riley Shea (Broomfield, Colo.) in the 33rd. Ottawa took a 2-1 lead into the break after converting a penalty kick attempt in the 41st minute.

The Wildcats evened the score at 2-2 in the 48th minute as Bartlett headed in a ball sent in off the corner kick attempt by Fowkes. The Spirit tried to find the go-ahead goal and kept pressuring the 'Cats when they gained possession of the ball. In the 65th, Bartlett gave Johnson & Wales the 3-2 advantage, heading in a ball from a long throw-in by Zach Peterschmidt (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Genge finished with two more saves to preserve the 3-2 win for Johnson & Wales.

Bartlett finished with three shots on goal and Genge made four saves.
