Wildcats unable to silence Poets

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team came up short Friday night, dropping a road contest at Whittier College by a score of 16-1.

The host Poets (2-5) built a 13-0 halftime lead as Lexie Meanor scored four times in in the first three minutes to help set the tone.

Senior Katie Smith (Livermore, CA) got the Wildcats (1-4) on the board with a goal assisted by Jochelyn Suglio (Orlando, FL) at the 16:53 mark of the second half.

Whittier finished with a decisive 24-3 advantage in shots on goal, had a 14-4 edge in draw controls and posted a 27-13 difference in ground balls while forcing 21 JWU Denver turnovers.

Brigid McCollam (New Fairfield, CT) made eight saves in net for the Wildcats while Julianna Lozada (Poway, CA) scooped up three ground balls.

The Wildcats return to Denver for their first two home games of the season next week, hosting Puget Sound on Tuesday at Aurora Sports Park and Marian on Wednesday.
