The Wildcats wrapped up the weekend on Saturday with a pair of matches at Colorado College's Spike It Up Classic.
In the first match of the day, the 'Cats took on host #2 Colorado College. The Wildcats held an early advantage in the match, holding the 6-2 lead. The Tigers regrouped and rallied to tie the set 7-7. After breaking up the tie, the Tigers used two more scoring bursts to take a 25-16 win. In the second set, the two sides struggled in the early moments but they both shook it off. Colorado College had a big push late to power their way to the 25-9 victory. In the third set, the Tigers opened it on a 6-0 streak. The Wildcats couldn't find the momentum they needed as the Tigers took the 25-9 win.
In the second match of the day, Johnson & Wales took on Cornell College (RV).
The opening set went back and forth early before the Rams started to find some momentum. Cornell pulled away with the 25-16 victory. In the second set the Rams started out with a 7-1 lead. Johnson & Wales tried to make up some ground but the Rams held them off for the 25-16 win. In the third, the 'Cats rallied from an early deficit to tie the set 13-13. A pair of late runs by the Rams allowed Cornell to take the 25-21 win.
Erynn Keeney (Thornton, Colo.) led Johnson & Wales with a .412 attacking percentage after collecting seven kills on 17 attempts. Ruehs had 17 assists for JWU and Brooke Paxton (Greeley, Colo.) had nine digs.
The Wildcats will close out their regular season next weekend with matches in Kansas and Nebraska.
